Star Wars Miniatures
Links to other Star Wars miniatures sites:
If any links here are broken, please try looking for the site on the SWMB Webring.
- The Star Wars IRC-RPG Resource at Echo Station has a gallery with miniatures photos, instructions for scratch-built scenery, and a scenario page with pictures of games. Some of my terrain and figures are visible in the Conventions section, since David and I have co-hosted many convention games.
- Red 24's Star Wars Miniatures Battles Page has a figure gallery, photos of games in progress, and an overview of the game rules.
- The Ewok Sanctuary has a miniatures gallery, SWMB files for the Army Builder PC program, and more.
- The Jawa Sandcrawler is a message board dedicated to buying, selling, and trading Star Wars miniatures. It is now hosted in the database section of the Yahoo SWMB mailing list web site, so you will need to be a list member to view this.
- There is also a Files section hosted on the Yahoo website, where members of the SWMB mailing list have posted pictures of their figures and terrain, house rules, new squad types, and more. Files currently available include pictures of some amazing Ewok village terrain, a starfighter model conversion, SWMB stats for Darktroopers, and the Episode I troop stats that originally were part of the Strategic Headquarters site (since Strategic HQ is presently offline). The main page for the SWMB mailing list on Yahoo can be found here.
- Peregrine's Nest has some rules additions including a way to use snowspeeder tow cables against walkers.
- The Alex Newborn Gallery features over 70 photos of Star Wars miniatures, most posed in dioramas reenacting scenes from the movies. The creator also explains some clever figure conversion projects.
- Rob's Miniature page has an excellent gallery of painted Star Wars miniatures including some unique figure conversions. (Note: This is a Geocities site which occasionally may be blacked out.)
- The War Factory site has a gallery of Star Wars figures and vehicles, including a great-looking hovertank made from a computer mouse and a step-by-step explanation of its construction.
- The Stuff of Legends site is great archive of basic information and pictures of out-of-production miniatures. It lists all of the WEG Star Wars miniatures boxes and blister packs, with pictures of many of the figures.
- Olaf Werner's Yahoo!Photos album shows the process of converting some Star Wars figures with 'green stuff' putty, based on WEG Star Wars figures, VOID miniatures, and scratch-built armatures.
- The Battle Shots site features galleries of miniatures sent in by many gamers, including one featuring Star Wars miniatures. (Note that the WEG figures are incorrectly labeled '20mm,' which tends to happen after someone compares them to 28-30mm figures that have been incorrectly described as 25mm.)
- The NapNuts Singapore Wargamers site is largely devoted to Napoleonics, but other games featured include Senator Arjun's Star Wars Skirmish Rules, home-brewed rules that seem to blend the combat mechanics of Warhammer 40K with some of WEG's rules for droids. There is also a battle report with photos for their Gortrak IV scenario.
- The Virtual Museum of miniatures by Ether Thierry has a photo of a nice model of a Mos Eisley urban scene. There are several pages of 'preview' photos of models on this site, which asks for a small fee to view the main site with more detailed photos.
- Columnist Dave "Fargo" Kosak of gamespy.com wrote an hilarious account of his own Star Wars miniatures game using Micro Machines, homemade rules, and lots of red ink.
- Visit the web site of Wizards of the Coast, now a subsidiary of toy giant Hasbro, to see the old news about the release of their small line of Star Wars miniatures, which was quickly discontinued. WotC is still publishing their D20 Star Wars Roleplaying Game.
- What happened to West End Games anyway? Echostation hosts two articles about the company's decline and fall, posted back in October 1998: The West End Crisis and Mind's Eye.
- The West End Games brand name is still around, owned by D6Legend, a subsidiary of The Humanoids Group. They have several new games but the old product lines are gone, as are the creative staff who worked on the Star Wars games. You can visit the reorganized WEG at www.westendgames.com.
- And of course there is the official Star Wars site at www.starwars.com with movie trailers, costume photos, background information about characters and equipment, and lots more stuff to explore.
Let me know if a link is broken or if you have a site to add or remove from this list. I am not responsible for the content of any of the sites listed above, which may change without notice.
At this time I am aware of only a few other sites that are not listed here, which are front pages with no content (or no original content).
